Dear Jane,
This topic has actually been covered on the Lactnet, giving human milk to sick
children and adults.  There should be no reason formula would be better than
human milk.
There are a couple people at Children's Hospital in Boston she should seek out
for support. Barbara Marino, PhD, RN, nurse researcher at Children's.  The
other option is to have them contact a IBCLC consultant there in the hospital.
