I think many peds do see bf babies as more trouble for them than bottle-fed babies and that they are thus inclined to support weaning when difficulties arise. Last week, I saw a 6 week-old baby who cannot eat without very serious breathinbg difficulties. I believe the baby has a serious allergy to cow milk (he receives more AIM than breastmilk and mom eats a lot of cow milk products). I encouraged her to call her ped immediately. He told her that this behaviour is common!!!! and he did not need to see the baby until his regular appointment 2 weeks later.

IMO, this means a couple of things--in this ped's mind artificial feeding is the norm, in his practice AF is the norm, he is uneducated about the hazards of AF and about the symptoms of allergy, and this baby is at serious risk for a cascade of conditions which will likely be seen as normal and never be linked to feeding. This ped is comfortable with AF, as are the vast majority.
