Hi all, I've had a couple of successes I would like to share with you--
yesterday a newly delivered mom underwent a diagnostic radiologic procedure
with contrast medium (for sx chest pain). After the procedure she was
instructed to pump and dump. A nurse called me at home to tell me this mom
needed to go home with a pump, could I help? I said of course I could help
but why does she need the pump. The nurse filled me in. Would you believe
I had a file of information on radiologic procedures and breastfeeding on my
desk I was putting together, unsolicited, for our radiologist. I asked the
nurse to give it to him, she did, he read it, he revised his recommendations
and gave it to the pt. to read. He thanked me via the nurse but also
requested I give him something a little harder and a little more current
(than 2001). That's first on my list for today. I believe I got most of the
info in the file through links posted here on Lactnet, so thank you!

Also yesterday, one of the peds pulled me aside and thanked me for passing
along a sample and ordering info on growth charts for breastfed babies. She
said a mother in her practice had seen another ped (in the practice) who
told her her baby wasn't gaining adequately and she must supp. This doc.
recalled the sample chart she had on her desk. She charted the baby's growth
and told the mother she was doing great and to just keep breastfeeding. Now
she is ordering the charts for the whole practice.

I always assume that other providers want to be excellent in their practice,
do what's best for their patients and achieve the best possible outcomes. I
think of my role as supporting them in their practice, it seems to work.
