Dear All,

I didn't get any replies to this and I think maybe I didn't make my
question very clear (seem to have an addled brain at the moment,
hence my asking for clarity here).

> My main question is, "How many variables are there (more or less)
> and how many of them were addressed by the AAP
> and the source in the UK?"

My understanding is:

1. The variable that should be looked at alone if the studies are to be
valid, is -- pacifiers and their role in reducing SIDS. (There should be
no "nuisance" variables that can make the study invalid.)

2. I am aware that the following variables were not addressed.
(a) What the babies were being fed (breast or bottle)?
(b) How often were the babies fed?
(c) Were the babies co-sleeping (in the parent's room) or in their own
rooms.
(d) Were the babies "sleep trained" (Ferberised) or could they
anticipate that if they woke and cried they would be responded to?

So my question is, are there any other variables that we should be
looking at and that I missed? (I need this information to write my
article).

Thanks lots!
Pat (Cape Town)
