South Africa: MEC Claims Great Strides in HIV Treatment

http://allafrica.com/stories/200610200520.html

partial quote:

The number of patients on the programme was roughly half those eligible for antiretroviral treatment. The programme to reduce mother-to-child transmissions was the "largest in the world" and involved antibody testing, antiretrovirals for mothers and children, and safer feeding options.

The health department expects that 192000 antenatal client tests for HIV will be completed at 740 voluntary counselling and testing centres this year in the province. Some 26000 infants are expected to be tested and 648000 tins of infant formula will be distributed through 53 hospitals and 580 clinics.
