I rec'd a gift, a book on Aromatherapy, (1995). It seems to cover mostly
women's health and beauty. Under breastfeeding it says:

"Vaporizer: 2 drops of either lemongrass, peppermint, or fennel to promote
breastmilk."

"Bath: jasmine 2 drops, peppermint 2 drops
Use oils in very low doses on the breasts and if bf avoid direct contact with
nipples or wash away any residue of essential oils before fdg. A cool
compress with 1 drop each of lavendar, geranium and eucalyptus or peppermint
will help alleviate soreness. Add 1 drop each of rose, chamomile, lavendar to
2 oz of sweet almond oil and use a half tsp to gently massage the breasts.
Use warm compresses before bf and cold compresses after the feed. If nipples
are engorged, try geranium 10 drops and peppermint 5 drops in 2 oz base oil."

This sounds so lovely - does anyone know of the use of aromatherapy for bf.
Does it work? Is it safe? There are other sections on perineal healing,
postpartum depression, etc. I am very much a conventional med. person, so
why I rec'd this gift, I'm not sure, but it sure is interesting and I do have
an open mind.
