I'm working with a 23 year old Native American female who is in
her third trimester of pregnancy. She ask me to find the pro's and con's
regarding breast feeding, which I did and I came across several article
that mentioned the lowered incidence of SIDS when infants are breast fed.
I know the incidence of SIDS is very high in the Native American
population as compared to other cultures. I spoke to three physicans in
my area about the subject of breast feeding and the lowered incidence of
SIDS and they all felt that this was a thought of old, when they felt
that the infants that died from SIDS were allergic to cows milk. They
encourage their expectant mothers to breast feed their infants but
because its better for the ibfant and mother, not because it lowers the
incidence of SIDS.
According to the Utah Department of Health & Service, breast
milk contains antibodies and nutrients to keep your baby healthy.
The Washington Post wrote, breast feeding may have a protective
effect against SIDS even if mothers only breast feed for a short time.

If anyone has more indepth information on this subject I would
appreciate hearing from you in the very near future.

                                                Thank You,
