Jo-Anne,
Hartville Hendrix is a pyschologist of reknown. He published "Getting the
Love You want:" A Guide for Couples" over 15 years ago and founded the Imago
Institute. His most recent book "Giving the Love That Heals: A Guide for
Parents"is completely pro-attachment. "For the first 18 mos after birth, your
baby is totally dependent. He is bonding w/ you and learning that his needs
will be met. During this period, the most important thing you can do is be
reliably available and reliably." (He references Bowlby). "This means
responding to what he needs when he needs it, regardless of whether it is
convenient. " He goes on the support constant connection, sling-wearing,
co-sleeping and breastfeeding. The only error is in advocating "occassional
bottles" from fathers. She might want to look on the Imago site for an Imago
trained therapist (not that all are up on Hendrix's parenting info). She
could also look on the APPPAH site for pshycologists who study attachment.
