I use a finger cot when doing a digital suck assessment, and I wash my
hands before the consult and at any time during the consult that I feel
is necessary in addition (such as after weighing baby and touching her
naked body). I have considered gloves, and should probably have them on
hand for the inevitable time that I have cuts, but I hate the decrease in
tactile sensitivity that I rely on so much, so I opt for cleanliness and
hygiene over the gloves.
