I agree with Ann Perry that there are alot of good reasons for mothers to
express as needed during the weaning process or if they have not and don't
intend to initiate bf. I do not advocate 'no stimulation.' I do explain to
the moms that if they express frequently and continue to do so, and
especially if they are draining the breasts well, that this is what we do to
keep the supply going. If they want to dry up, then they express less
amounts, less often, until they no longer need to. Have seen several cases
of mastitis involving re-hospitalization in women who stopped bf cold turkey
or did not initiate, and who were not expressing at all.
