Hi all,

I have been summoned for jury duty Monday 11/6. I know some of the
problems/ramifications were discussed a while ago on Lactnet. It is a civil
case. That's all I know. I called to see if I could be excused. The reason
being I am nursing a 14 mo old and also have a kindergartener. My husband is
out of town and will be Monday and Tues too. I do not use babysitters nor
day care, only my parents help out but they are seniors and only have the
toddler few hours at a time. They will be with another grandchild having
preop/surgery on Tues/Wed. Hubby will be with his mother for 5 hours of
medical testing on Wed and dr. appt on Thurs. I also carpool for a neighbor
with a one week old nursing infant, so she is depending on me to pick up the
kids at 3 pm. What a mess. I wonder if they want to hear about all that!

The law clerk only would speak to me, not the judge. But he advised me that
the judge only accepts medical excuses. I told him I would have to bring the
baby and he said "OK - we had a mom breastfeeding a baby on a criminal jury
recently." I told him mine was not a quiet infant but an active toddler
(understatement). BTW she doesn't eat solids well and never would take a
bottle. I'll let ya'll know how this goes.
