Hi all,

I think there was a discussion on this recently, so if anyone can offer
information or narrow the time span for an archive search I would
appreciate it.

I did not work with this mom when she was having these problems, but she
is still looking for an answer. I wish she came to me sooner.

She is 36 and nursed her baby for one year. She had bouts of mastitis--I
believe due to the fact that she was not pumping often enough at work and
baby was not nursing at night.

When her baby was 11 months, she started having pain (burning) throughout
her left breast after nursing or pumping. She stopped nursing on that
side when she realized that she was getting blood along with her milk
while pumping. She said it was quite a bit of blood. Not from cracked
nipples

She saw an LC who thought it might be fungal. I am not clear as to
whether she was treated for thrush. When her baby was 12 months, her
doctor was concerned for her well-being and told her to wean. Still
experiencing pain and bleeding in left breast. She was happy at making it
to one year, so her baby would not need to have abm--she weaned. She
spent most of her year in pain while nursing---mastitis and ending with
the above situation.

Since weaning, everything has been fine. Her baby is around 17 months
now. Her doctor is uncertain about the bleeding she experienced during
her last month nursing. He wants her to have a mammogram.

She would like permission to share any information with her doctor.

Thanks.

Aloha,
