I notice your tense is the past tense. Did something change or stop, or do you simply no longer work there or something? Just wondering. Thanks! It's an interesting thread since I assume that patients are not charged extra for food in the hospital but it must be included somehow. Also, though,= human milk is more than food, and as sort of a medicinal product as well or even moreso actually), I wonder if meds are charged specifically, whereas
maybe food isn't? Dunno since I don't work in a hospital. Just thinking...

Nothing has changed as far as purchasing donor milk at the hospital. I just changed jobs to another pediatric hospital which does not have an NICU (St. Jude Children's Research Hospital---oncology only).

It made sense to me to have the donor milk come out of the Food Service budget since the food service there buys all the food/formula for ALL the patients---and it is 100% peds. I presented it that way, and it was accepted, so we just left it like that. I don't think I could have ever gotten it through if I would have asked the NICU to begin paying for it. Also, I am a dietitian and worked very closely with the dietitian over the food service area....sometimes, it's all in who you know!!
