In my Lactation Consultants Series, Unit 13, The Effects of an Overactive
Let-Down Reflex, there is management for babies who are diagnosis with this
problem when they are 3-6 months old.
I have a mother who's baby fits this diagnosis and she has started the
suggestions with a positive outcome so far (gained 4 oz over 3 days) and her
baby is not as distressed when nursing.
My question is how long would you recommend a mother stay with this plan?
She is supplementing 8 oz/day at this time. The baby dropped from the 25% to
the 10% the past month.
Have others diagnosed this problem in stage 2 (3-6 month of age) and how were
your outcomes?
It appears that Overactive Let-down is noted and managed more frequently in
the first 3 months but I have not seen any discussion of the second stage.
Are Frances Andrusiak or Michelle Larose-Kuzenko, authors to this article,
around?
Thanks for any feedback.
