Dear Lactnet Friends:

This baby that poops only once a week, reminds me of a baby I saw years ago
who pooped once a week starting as soon as cleared his meconium. He gained
weight well, and was pretty happy. As his stooling pattern was so
different, I followed him closely for a few weeks, until it was clear that
he and his mom were doing well. I actually had a conversation with him when
he was 2; very bright and articulate little boy!

Seems like the medical panic over the baby's pattern as described in
today's post is separate problem. Babies are honest; they don't pretend to
be well to make their mother feel better.

My own daughter pooped once every 2 weeks for about 4 months, starting at 3
months of age. I was very worried, got reassurance from LLL, and then came
to enjoy it...except for the bi-weekly blowout!!

A baby is more than the sum of its pees, poops and weight gain.

warmly,
