Excuse me, but where did he take anatomy and physiology?
The uterus is a baby carrier.
We've discussed the hormones of lactation before on Lactnet, should be in
the archives or see any text like Riordan, Lawrence, the BAB. A total
hysterectomy only interferes with BF to the extend that any major surgery
interferes with BF.

Personally I would wait a little longer than 4 weeks. Get BF well
established, get baby to the point that BF is automatic (not bumbling, like
in beginning-you know, when they zap on like they have radar :-).

Personally I'd wait a few more weeks. Arrange for meals, child care etc.
recover from the birth, be kind to herself! Then do surgery. Physically
the body is back to normal after 4 weeks, but not in any other way :-) Some
moms find third babies hard to cope with. It's a real shock to their
household managing. So get through all that and then do hyster before baby
gets too fat to easily carry/move around with. Pat in SNJ
