I think about this topic alot. Images of baby bottles are everywhere!
Wrapping paper, cards, fabric, blankets, etc, etc. They come with dolls of
all kinds, including the pregnant Barbie and pediatrician Barbie. But how
does one replace those images with something related to breastfeeding in
this crazy culture we live in (especially those of us in the USA)? The
recent uproar over the Super Bowl was a prime example, where vulgar,
suggestive, dancing and lyrics was considered acceptable, but a brief
glimpse of a nipple was considered obscene.

What has anyone thought of or found that could be used to help replace some
of that? I keep saying that I am going to make up some nursing fashions for
Barbie, and a tiny baby sling for her little baby. I also have a rag doll
with velcro nipples and a little baby with a velcro mouth, which my kids
really like. I can't think of the name of the business, or its owner, I got
that from, but I am sure someone knows!

If more people saw baby bottles like my kids do, seeing images of them would
not be of such concern, as far as rates of breastfeeding. Bottles were very
convenient for providing drinks (juice, molasses milk, etc) for pre-school
aged little ones, who were likely to spill with cups. With health problems,
as well as with having a large number of children, I often took advantage of
this to keep kids happy, while not having to worry about spills. The
bottles were seen, by the kids, as drink containers for little ones,
however, and not as a replacement for breastfeeding, especially not for
small babies. If the baby cried while one of the older ones was watching
her, I would hear, "Mom! The baby's crying! You need to nurse her!".

I had to laugh about this:
Clinique face cream for aging baby boomers (you're not a baby any more, but
you still need your formula -- gag)
The formula most baby boomers got was evaporated milk mixed with lots of
water and corn syrup. Most boomers did not think that kind of formula was
good enough for their own children. I wonder if the manufacturers of this
really want to associate their product with that!
