Dear Nicki,

Just to clarify, no, you are not reading it correctly.  *All three groups* in the originally conceived Dodd and Chalmers JOGNN study were to
receive teaching and help to achieve correct latch-on.  The hospitals' Internal Review Boards (IRBs) rejected the original study design because
they did not believe it was ethical to deprive a group of treatments that could alleviate pain and potentially put breastfeeding at risk.  The
researchers had to eliminate the group that received *only* help with latch on in order to satisfy the IRBs' ethical concerns so the study
could proceed.  The two groups that were left were taught and helped to achieve correct latch-on *and* received either Lansinoh or
Maternimates, depending upon the group.
