Hello Rachel!

I have done it myself 9 years ago when my younger daughter was diagnosed
with diabetes at three weeks old. My daughter had / has an insulin pump and
I breastfed her until almost three years old despite the diabetes. I think
that breastfeeding helped me to take care of her easier since I had a quick
snack with me all the time! I also continued night nursing until 2,5 years
old because my daughter got hypos easily at nights and it was very easy just
nurse her (and measure blood sugar value). I could just nurse her and stay
at bed and she did not even woke up. We co-slept. My daughter was very tiny
though so I dont think that every mother needs to continue night nursing
until 2,5 years, hypos might not be problem at all as long.

You can give my email to the mother if your friend wish to have it. I am at
work so I might not read my email every day but I will answer her / You as
soon I can.

Warmly,
Pia Ruohotie, RN and breastfeeding counsellor
