Dear Lactnet Friends:

What an interesting case; thank you Merete. This mother is an expert in her
own unique situation.

I wonder. . .when breastfeeding, how does one's own milk come in contact
with the breasts? I have breastfed 2 children for years and am trying to
figure this out. Milk on the areola, yes, of course. But on the breasts?

Would using a nipple shield work?

Is there something she is eating that when it comes through in her milk,
triggers a reaction? Or something in her milk, when it is exposed to air,
creates an allergic stimulus?

What a challenging and painful situation.

warmly,
