i see what you are saying, but...playing devil's advocate...that would work
if babies were born at home or in birth centers where birthing was a normal,
womanly event.
however babies born in hospitals are a medical event, and being a nicu
veteran, even i was thinking this: they need to be weighed *in case* they
need meds, blood, they need a gest. age assessment to see if they are sga,
lga, etc, we need to do a head circ. to see if they fall outside of
parameters etc. see this is a medical model lookingfor pathology instead of
a well ness model. i admit i have a tendency to have this mindset. have to
work hard to overcome it. this is the same mindset that says babies must
have a water feed first to check for t-e fistula and their suck/swallow
ability (agian, assuming you will find pathology). just food for thought.
