The milk that is present in the breast at the birth of a baby is COLOSTRUM
whether or not she has been nurinsg a toddler all the way thru a pregnancy or
this is her first. Mothter Nature provides for the newborn - and the hormones
in mother's body make it IMPOSSIBLE for her to "maintain" a milk supply
appropriate for a toddler when getting close to delivery. (Also explains the
nipple tenderness and discomfort). The archives have lots of information
about this topic (composition of colostrum/milk) as well as our standard
reference books. That's why toddlers who continue to nurse will mention the
"taste" of the milk as changing. And my toddler who nursed almost all the way
to her sister's birth had very loose stools; due to the "laxative effect" of
colostrum I'm sure.
