Underwire nursing bras reappeared several years ago when companies began
teaching how to properly fit a bra. This was in response to mothers asking
for underwire bras, or using other underwire bras while breastfeeding. When
properly fitted, there should be ample room under the padded wire so that
pressure is not put on ducts. Many women who wear underwire bras when they
are not pregnant or nursing want them when they are nursing. The fitter
should emphasize getting a proper fit with ample room. Even a non-underwire
bra that is too snug or has a seam compessing a duct can cause a problem.
