Just to share re the possible infection of infant breasts, I worked with a
mom whose baby girl developed MRSA in the breast and it was thought by the
infectious disease doc that it likely occurred when the infant was
experiencing breast enlargement and that the nipple pores may be slightly open. It
was also more than likely hospital acquired pre discharge. I'm not sure
but think baby was partially breastfeeding so it would be of interest,
Pamela, to know what reference you referred to; if you happen to remember or run
across it could you post it to Lactnet?
