SUBJECT: brfdg "ruins" (look of) breasts
DATE: 02-18-97 18:08 EST
PRIORITY:

So--Fr. MDs discourage brfdg because it "ruins" the breasts. I was told
pregnancy itself changes the look of the breasts when i asked how to respond
to those women who didn't want to brfd because they didn't want to "ruin"
their figures or make their breasts "sag". It makes sense to me that breast
profiles would change but I don't know how much. Anyone got some good
responses to this?

Dr N's post reminded me of this--Cuba apparently has "done away with" abm as a
govt supported provision, of course their access is poor anyway so the stuff
is prohibitively $$$ to buy. The brf rates have gone up, which is good, but
the friend who told me of this was also told by her Cuban male friend (shaking
his head at the parade of "less than perfect" breasts on the Cuban beach) that
in Cuba women's breasts are not as beautiful as (I presume in the US) because
in Cuba women breastfeed!!!

Why do I get the feeling that the "Universal standard of female beauty" is
about 15 years old...or less! (Of course not all 15 year olds are long legged
coltish/skinny beauties, but more fit than older girls/women whose linear
growth has stopped...and a lot of "fashion models" are younger than they are
allowed to look.) Body image is a factor in brfdg as well as in pregnancy wt
gain and postpartum loss...

Which also brings to mind...Do we recommend nursing bras for comfort or to
"preserve the figure"? one of my friends finds the inexpensive (Tar...t)
"stretch" knit athletic type bras easier to use than most nursing bras,
particularly when trying to pump quickly at work but admits they do not
"support" her breasts as well.
