I have a good story to share in an otherwise challenging week. I was at
the WALC conference last Thurs-Fri and therefore was not at work for 4
days. I don't know what happened but we had a run of NICU admissions
during the time I was gone. Two of our new admissions are a set of 34 week
twins whose mother was planning on bottlefeeding from the start because she
is going back to work in 12 weeks. I asked her if she would consider
pumping milk for her babies while they were in the NICU. She answered yes
without much thought and has been happily pumping since then and states she
feels good about being able to provide milk for her babies. We've also
talked about how she might feel when it comes time to put babies to breast-
she is actually looking forward to that day. Babies are still on CPAP, so
it may be a little while. Mom also wants to be reassured that she can quit
at any time - I have reassured her that we'll take it one day/one
experience at a time. I think it was all in the presentation!
