Well, this isn't strictly breastfeeding related but it's certainly an
eye opener on birth interventions. This was in the National Post
newspaper. http://www.nationalpost.com/ You need to scroll down and on
the left side of the page there is a section called "Special Reports".
One of the reports listed is the "Birth Guide". Clicking on that will
give you several articles about birthing options in Canada as well as
surveys of hospitals across Canada and what services they offer as well
as rates of intervention. Kind of depressing, actually. One of the
comments from one article that leapt out at me was:
"In theory, women have an almost endless range of choices for who will
deliver their baby. A water birth at home with a midwife, a pain-free
hospital delivery overseen by a leading obstetrician, a doula to hold
your hand and advocate for you -- all are possible if you live in
Canada."
