Years ago, while working in an LDRP, I routinely bathed babies after Moms had
nursed the first time. (in the room with mom).  I did this, not for the baby's
sake, but for my own.  I detest handling a baby with gloves on, however, an
unwashed baby, covered with mom's bodily fluids, poses a risk to me and to
everyone else who touches him/her.  I don't know this for a fact, but I'd be
surprised if the CDC and OSHA guidelines don't consider an unwashed newborn to
be an occupational hazard.  I'm certainly willing to consider facts to the
contrary if anyone knows some.
