Pam,
I'd suggest asking for oestrogen, progesterone, prolactin and quantitative
HCG (you want them to report a number, not just say "pregnant" or "not") -
these can all be done on the same tube of blood. And for ultrasound
(preferably all by the same centre, one that specialises in gynae/ obs
ultrasound).
Once you have a number of women, you can write it up as a "case series".
It is not so easy to find appropriate women to form a control group, as
there are issues around consent, cost and so on.
Obviously we need studies to look at all these factors. But a case series is
often the first step in getting recognition of something new.
