I wouldn't anticipate problems for your mother who is breastfeeding well her 8 month old.

My daughter had a helmet for a while.  It is not very hard to breastfeed with the helmet and one get used to it fairly quickly.  Obviously, it is not as "nice" as without the helmet, but what can you do...  I found that taking it off and on was more disturbing for the baby than just leaving it on.
