Dear Gloria,

who writes

"Hospitals should have an informed consent waiver that the couple can sign to
refuse treatment."
It is my understanding that parents can sign a waiver. However, I may be
wrong, Jeanette correct me if I am.

Newborn sticky eye can be treated very effectively with washes of breast milk
or saline solution in the first few days after birth

Its not the sticky eye, that AAP is worried about. Its the bad stuff like STD's
that can potentially cause blindness. At least that what I know of the
reasons. Hopefully, just stating the facts, as I know them.
