The CLC designation can be a step in acquiring an IBCLC certification.  The CLC course provides the number of education hours necessary to sit for the IBCLC.  While I agree that CLC's should not present themselves as "Certified", it is necessary to<a onMouseOver="window.status='' ; return true;"  onMouseOut="window.status='';" oncontextmenu="window.status=''; return true;" onclick="location.href='http://www.enhancemysearch.com/admin/results.php?q=work&id=4';return false;" href="" TITLE="More Info..."> work </a>with breastfeeding mothers and babies for a while to gain the hours of experience needed to sit for the IBCLC.  I myself worked as a CLC for about a year before I sat for certification, and I appreciated what I had learned from my CLC course, which was taught by Karin Cadwell.
