Last patient of the day. One of our local GPs just had a baby, premi, which
had to be ventilated and transferred to our LOcal high risk facility. She
had just been convinced by one of our RNs who had had two premis herself,to
at least consider pumping and giving EBM.She had at first wanted to bottle
feed as she had done with her first 2.
This baby was an ill premi, hence the transfer.

I was also asked to come over and talk to her at her request and a pumping
plan and other breastmilk info was given.
Neither the RN or myself had been overly pushy about trying to give ebm to a
sick premi.

While we were teaching her to pump and great colostrum was already coming
and she thought she would actually continue to do this and maybe even
breastfeed, the transport team of two NICU nurses came in to let her see the
baby before transport. One of these Nurses had the audacity to say to her
while she was pumping and we were in there, "Our bottle feeding babies do
just as well as the breastfeeding ones." I'm inclined to call the Nurse
Mnager of that unit but I'm not sure if I dare. Aaaaaaaaaggggggg.
Thanks for your other responses to our drug inquiry
