I wouldn't use aloe vera or mango on the nipple. Aloe vera is very
soothing for burns/itching but shouldn't go near a baby's mouth. Mango
is acidic and will irritate the nipple even more. The best solution is
a little mother's milk on the nipple. I've only found one cream made up
by a Jerusalem pharmacist to work nicely. It is based on homeopathic
arnica and doesn't need to be washed off. I haven't found much success
with any of the usual OTC creams, vitamin drops or plain lanolin.
Israeli midwives all recommend wheat germ oil which I can't stand. The
stuff goes rancid quickly too.
