Sue, your guidelines are very old and outdated. According to THE
BREASTFEEDING ANSWER BOOK, research by Sosa 1987;Barger 1987 indicates human
milk has previously unrecognized properties (to name one, white blood cells)
that protect it from bacterial contamination. Newest recommendations are room
temperture, colostrum 12-24 hours, mature milk 6-10 hours. Refrigerated milk,
mature milk up to 5 days. Frozen milk, freezer unit of refrigerator 3-4
months. Separate deep freezer with constant 0 degrees F for 6 months or
longer.
