I had both of my kids at home, and both had gained several ounces over birth
wt. already by one week - a real surprise to me because I wasn't aware that
my milk came in particularly early or anything. I've puzzled over this
because I have attended many births in the hospital with immediate and
unrestricted nursing throughout, but still had the usual 5-10% wt loss in
the babies. Is there something about the stress of being in an institution,
moving back home and getting settled in there as opposed to just starting
off at home in one's own bed?
