THis is called laryngomalacia.
Surgery is only done in extreme cases.
Breastfeeding is usually easier for babies with this condition,
especially if they are nursed in prone (laying on mom's chest, or with
mom leaning way back as in a recliner) with head extension (Head tipped
back to open the airway). If a bottle is used, a Haberman feeder is
probably best, because the flow can be slowed.
Kids with laryngomalacia generally have a harder time breathing when
they are stressed, sucking, laying on their backs, exerting themselves,
or crying. Bottle feeding on the back with fast flow can be very hard
for these little ones.
