Question for the wise lactladies:
Has anyone ever seen solid colostrum? We have a teeny premie in our unit and the mother immediately began hand-expressing and pumping colostrum for him. We refrigerated about 15 mls in two different containers (one a bottle, and the other a milk storage bag that the mother brought in). The next day when the nurse got them out of the fridge she came to me perplexed. Both contained stuff that looked like solid chunks of fat or cheese. Warming it did nothing......still solid chunks. There was no way to feed it to the baby.
Anybody else ever had this experience or any ideas on what might have caused it?
