I too, see quite a few teen moms in the WIC environment. They are as a
rule very receptive to the idea of breastfeeding. I use the Best Start video
"No one loves them like you" which contains discussion amongst teens about
breastfeeding. The positive feedback that I get from them includes: My baby
knows who his mamma is (the babies are usually kept by grandparents), My
stomach got flat really fast, I don't have to get up in the middle of the
night to fix bottles and my baby smells good. These moms are also usually
starving for positive parenting info. and it is very helpful to try and get
their support network at home (boyfriends, parents, grandparents, friends) to
attend classes. I usually offer refreshments and a door prize (donated by
local business) as incentive. It is truly a beautiful sight to see these
moms blossom into nuturing, self-confident young women!! Good luck with your
class Petra, I am sure you will find it most enjoyable.
Now, could someone please help me figure out how to read the attatched
files that are sometimes sent? Being the computer novice that I am, I am
having problems. Is there a particular format that I should be trying to
convert to? I download the file and then go to WordPerfect and it won't tell
me the format it is in. When I try to read file, it is a garbled mess of 0's
and symbols. Please e-mail me privately so as not to waste Lacnet space with
something everyone else already knows.
