Elise,

Anecdotally, my daughter had milk come out of her nose almost every
feeding. She was a baby that nursed very quickly (6 min per side) and
wouldn't stop or slow down for anything. If the milk flowed too quickly
she just let it run out her nose and kept nursing. She was very high
need and could be fussy at the breast as well. She definitely doesn't
have any sort of a cleft. :)

Subject: milk out nose -- cleft?

Hello everyone! I need some help.
In your collective experience, if milk *often* comes out the baby's nose
during a nursing, does this necessarily mean a cleft? Or can it occur in
the absence of any cleft at all? (Hard palate feels normal; haven't
seen
uvula.)
If there is a cleft (presumably at the very back of the soft palate
only),
and if this is the only symptom, is it necessary to do anything about it
other than feeding in more upright positions?
Baby is around 7 weeks old and breastfeeds effectively, though with some
fussiness and pulling on/off breast. In all other respects besides the
nasal regurgitation, the baby's behavior, development, diapers etc.
indicate simple oversupply in the mother. Weight gain is about 13
oz./wk,
with current wt at 12 lbs 5.5 oz.
Thank you very much! Please reply to me privately as well as replying
to
the list, as I am nomail at present.
