Rachel, Wow what an amazing story, I took care of a Baby with TAPVR when I was a green/new NICU RN in the NAVY, that baby was very sick, did not make it, Mother was a heavy smoker and he was premature. We did transfer him very quickly to Children's Hospital, before we knew exactly what he had. I had to bug the Resident's to call in our Pediatric cardiologist at the time, because I could obviously see it was over their head to handle, and beyond our capability, we did not at the time have a Cardiac equipped NICU, but unfortunately, he did not make it. Your Grand Daughter and her parents are amazing, she is lucky her PDA and other parts of her fetal circulation stayed functional without help from Prostaglandins, for that long. And I agree, I think a lot gets missed and overlooked, because we are too busy getting them in and getting them out, or because we just cannot admit that something needs more thorough investigation, not everything can be diagnosed in 2 secs or less.
