<.....why did it progress.? Was it the ultrasound? ....>
Hi Val,
Infective mastitis is usually caused by Staph aureus - and this bacteria has
a tendency to form abscesses. So, sometimes, abscesses do occur despite the
best treatment and management. If people have therapeutic ultrasound, they
usually see an improvement after one or two treatments. My advice is not to
continue having daily ultrasound - either it is improving after a couple of
treatments or if it isn't, then stop. In this case, it sounds like that
breast isn't draining well - any white spots on the nipple? I would reassure
her that there is no reason to think about cancer in this situation.
