Having worked in L&D through several types of epidurals, from the last
minute type, the repeated injection types, the longer term pump types, when
fentanyl was started and now as an LC in the hospital i see the after
effects of Spinals.

The fentanyl seems to have changed the scene probably the most, but babys
are also very sleepy if more than one does of narcotic are given. At
conference I heard Dr. Hale speak about the changing properties of fentanyl
once it goes into the body and how long the half- lives are?

I just wish there was the time and money to conduct research along the lines
of types of medical intervention now used since we are not going to change
the thinking of birthing and pain over night.

In my prenatal class I have started showing a fairly new video by Suzanne
Arms. The title eludes me right now. I also show the Leinhart video of the
different effects of different types of births and aftercare and how the
baby responds. But this is such a small study. These videos do bring forth a
lot of questions about natural childbirth and I do think it makes people
approach their own needs in labour with the needs of their baby.
