Kathleen:
Macrobid displaces bilirubin from its binding site on albumin. When given
early postpartum, hyperbilirubinemia may occur. However in a normal infant
at 4 weeks, there's not enough bilirubin around to case a problem. On the rare
occassion that an infant still has elevated bilirubin levels, then it would
still
be contraindicated. Otherwise, go ahead and breastfeed.
