Sue, I read your post--yikes! Is the baby able to extend his tongue past the bottom lip? Is the baby bunching his tongue? Are the lips flanged on the breast? Any "clucking" noises? Is the baby so close to mom not even a piece of paper would fit between them?  Cradle hold or cross-cradle? Is the chin pressed into the breast? Did you do a finger assessment? I know people argue over doing this, but sometimes the answer is instantly obvious. It may help to have the baby latch mom's finger (pad to palate) and suck a few seconds to remind him to curl and reach before he latches mom. Please write back to let us know what you find/found.
