I agree with Kathy's cautions about avoiding burnout. Prepare your moms as 
best you can. It may sound cruel, but there are few LC emergencies (they are 
emergencies to the mother, however). I try to prepare mothers by teaching 
expressing, RPS, engorgement prevention and management and giving it in 
writing. Schedule early f/u calls or visits if you can. Good luck.

Since this should be my last post, I wanted to mention about the value of 9 
oz ebm. Today I spoke with a premie's mom whose  baby was on antibiotics. I 
said that the antibiotics they choose usually cover a variety of germs since 
we sometimes don't know exactly the germ. However, I said, your milk is 
making the *exact* antibodies to whatever baby is exposed to. I was 
encouraging mother to do skin to skin, kissing the nicu baby, etc.  It 
seemed mother swelled with pride at this. You could offer this to the 
discouraged mother we talked about on lactnet earlier.
