Mother has had yeast overgrowth for 5 weeks, and has been treated for one
staph infection. Her nipples and breast are still sore and a culture grew
GBS. She began treatment with Ceftin (cefuroxime) yesterday.

She called Ped to see if she should continue breastfeeding. He was unsure
and called a neonatologist who said definitely not, until she tested
negative for Beta Strep.

Is that an accepted protocol for a healthy 5-week old baby with no symptoms?

Please answer as soon as possible.

Thanks,

Pat Gima, IBCLC
