Hi Marilynn,

I'm an LC in a large suburban hospital with a very active level III
nursery. We used to use gradufeed-type plastic bottles, provided
gratis by the formula company of the month, for NICU moms
to pump into and store, capped with bottle lids supplied by them but
sterilized at our institution. Then we found, to our chagrin, that even tho the
bottles were individually wrapped, they are not sterile! And the
company started to put up a big stink because we were using too many
of them (we have a well-educated population). Ever happy to divorce
ourselves from formula company sponsorship, we switched over to using
sterile Medela bags for pumping and storing. Our moms and nurses
have had no problems with them. Yes, they are more expensive. The
cost of each pack of 50 is charged to the infant.

Good luck,
Terry Hadley, IBCLC
