hello all. I will introduce myself briefly as I have not used LACNET that
often, although i have found searching the archives endlessly useful. i am
an IBCLC working both in and out patient at a large hospital in San
Francisco, California, USA

i have permission to ask you all about a patient i saw on Sunday. i
searched the archives, but did not find this particular issue addressed.
She gave birth to her third child last week and told me this history.
first pregnancy, uneventful. Breastfed that child without difficulty for
17 months. with her second pregnancy, she got sore, cracked nipples, while
pregnant, that cleared up after about a week of breastfeeding. same with
her thrid pregnancy. she has spoken with her OB, a dermatologist and me
with no adequate answer as to why this has happened or how best to treat it
while pregnant. she found even the water from her shower would be painful
and open up the cracks (while pregnant)! her OB recommended vaseline
(pretroleum jelly) while pregnant. i gave her some 'soothies' to try as
she already had pur-lan. . .

Any help/answers/comments? please email me privately also, as i am no mail
at this time.

Elaine Jewell, IBCLC

Thanks in advance to you all.
