Nikki: Hands are also attached and cannot be lost or forgotten! Unfortunately,
they can break! Also, remember that the US is really the only country in the
world (and this IS an international list) that relies so heavily on pumps and
other breastfeeding technology.
A mother does not NEED a breast pump, breast shells, nipple shields, Lansinoh
(whatever happened to mother's own milk in promoting good nipple health?),
Boppy pillows, herbal teas, medications, etc. in order to successfully
breastfeed. The earlier aggressive interventions are started the less likely a
successful nursing experience will follow.
My personal mantra? What do we need to do to put and keep this baby at the
breast? The answer to this question rarely involves heavy use of technology.
It would behoove us all to go back to the basics!
